Areas of Specialization: Over the last 30 years, I have worked to empower the human and spiritual growth of individuals, couples, families, and groups from 3 to 103 years old. I have worked in schools, churches, a psychiatric ward, nursing homes and a half way house for homeless and ex-offenders as well as treatment programs for emotionally disturbed children, chemically dependent, and sexual offenders. Due to my experience, I work with most of the problems typically seen at an outpatient counseling center such as Lutheran Counseling Center. Intake person will inform you of the exceptions. Play Therapy: Play therapy is a special process that focuses on children's need to express themselves through the use of play and toys i.e. art play, sand play, dramatic play and fantasy play. Children are unable to understand and talk about their feelings the way adults do and this makes adult therapies inappropriate in meeting children's needs. Children can recreate, in play, the issues/conflicts that are currently influencing their behavior. Beginning with this expression, the child's play evolves until the child gains a sense of understanding and comfort over this situation. This leads to higher self-esteem and more enjoyment of activities with family, friends and peers. Parenting then is more enjoyable. View of Therapy: Therapy is a process of working as efficiently as possible with your strengths and style of change in order to strengthen and increase your ability to find solutions and/or manage your problems/issues. Since Faith/Grace/Spirituality may be a significant resource for you and I believe in God and Jesus Christ; I pastorally utilize healing/prayer/spiritual growth when appropriate and as much as you are willing and able to integrate God into your life.
